Custom Laser Cutting
CNC fibre laser cutting for fabricators, engineers, and manufacturers. Mild steel, stainless, aluminium and other materials by request — up to 3000 × 1500mm. DXF/DWG for 2D or step/stp for 3D.
What We Cut
CNC fibre laser cutting provides clean, accurate parts from flat sheet metal. We can cut most metallic materials in a wide range of thicknesses up to 20mm, maintaining close tolerances.
| Material | Thickness Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mild Steel (S275 / S355) | 1mm — 20mm | Supplied oiled or dry. Pickled & oiled available. |
| Stainless Steel (304 / 316) | 1mm — 12mm | Mill finish as standard. Brushed finish on request. |
| Aluminium (5083 / 6082) | 1.5mm — 12mm | Mill finish. Anodising available via referral. |
All BPT welding tables use 16mm holes on a 50mm pitch. Need fixture plates, jig components, or custom tooling to fit your table? We can cut those too — just send us a DXF or describe what you need.
Beyond the Cut
We can take your job further than flat-cut blanks. Folding and welding are done in-house — no extra logistics.
We have CNC press brake capacity. Supply your flat DXF plus a folding drawing or the step/stp files, and we'll quote the complete formed part. Tolerances to ±0.5mm on formed dimensions as standard. Ideal for brackets, flanges, enclosures, and chassis work.
For assemblies that need welding after cutting and forming, our fabrication team can complete the job. The same craftsmanship that goes into every BPT welding table goes into every job we take on. Frames, enclosures, structural components — talk to us about your project.
Sending parts to three different suppliers costs you time and margin. We can take your files and return a finished, welded assembly — supplied direct from our Somerset workshop. Contact us to discuss your project.
How It Works
No sales calls, no lengthy quoting forms. Here's how a typical job runs from enquiry to delivery.
Use the contact form or email us directly - james@bptables.co.uk. Include material, thickness, quantity, and any folding or fabrication notes. DXF is preferred — we can also work from PDF or dimensioned drawings for simple parts.
You'll receive a clear price and lead time by return. No hidden charges, no material surcharge surprises. If we spot anything in your file that might affect the cut — open paths, tiny features, overlapping lines — we'll flag it before we start.
Once you approve the quote, we schedule your job. Standard turnaround is 3–5 working days. Rush jobs available — ask at the time of quoting.
Parts are dispatched via courier or pallet depending on size and quantity. Collection from our workshop near Taunton is always available and free of charge.
File Requirements
Getting your file right saves time and ensures your parts cut exactly as intended. Here's what we need:
- DXF/DWG or step/stl format preferred — exported from AutoCAD, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Inkscape, or any CAD package
- All lines as vectors — no raster images embedded in the file
- Closed profiles — all outlines must be fully closed paths; open lines will flag at our end and we'll come back to you
- One file per part — if you have multiple different parts in a batch, separate DXF files makes it quicker to quote accurately
- Indicate grain direction if critical — for stainless and aluminium with a visible grain, note this in your instructions
- Bend lines on a separate layer — if folding is required, include bend lines labelled on a layer called BENDS
If you have a sketch, dimensioned PDF, or even a clear photo of a hand drawing, send it to us. For simple parts we can draw it up and include a small draughting charge in the quote. Don't let the file format stop you getting in touch.
Pricing
Laser cutting prices depend on material, thickness, cut length, quantity, and whether folding or fabrication is involved. Here's what you can expect:
| Minimum job charge | £35 — covers set-up for small or single-part jobs |
| Simple flat parts | Typically £20–£80 per part depending on size and material; lower per-part price on batch runs |
| Folding / press brake | Quoted per bend — typically £5–£15 per bend depending on complexity |
| Fabrication / welding | Quoted per job based on time and complexity |
| Rush jobs | 15–25% surcharge depending on how tight the turnaround — ask when requesting your quote |
| Payment terms | Monthly invoicing for trade accounts. Proforma for new customers. |
If you're likely to send us regular work, we can set you up with a trade account — monthly invoicing, priority scheduling, and a direct line to our cutting team. Contact us to discuss.
Frequently Asked Questions
DXF/DWG or step/stp is our preferred format. We can also work from PDF, or dimensioned drawings for simple parts. If you're unsure, just send us what you have and we'll advise.
We work to a tolerance of ±0.2mm. For most engineering applications this is more than sufficient. If your part has tighter tolerances on specific features, let us know and we'll discuss whether additional machining is required post-cut.
No. We can supply single parts. The minimum job charge of £35 applies to small or single-part jobs to cover set-up time, but there's no minimum quantity requirement.
Yes, for straightforward parts. Send us a clear dimensioned sketch or photo and we'll quote including a small drafting charge to draw the DXF. For complex assemblies, we'd recommend supplying a DXF to ensure accuracy.
Standard turnaround is 3–5 working days. For urgent jobs we can often cut within 24–48 hours — a rush surcharge of 15–25% applies. Tell us your deadline when you get in touch and we'll tell you honestly whether we can hit it.
No — we supply all material. Just send your DXF and specify the material and thickness, and we'll handle the rest.
Yes — collection from our workshop near Taunton, Somerset is always available and free of charge. Contact us when placing your order to arrange a time.
If you re-order the same part with the same DXF, there is no additional set-up charge — the file is already on our system. Re-orders are typically faster to quote and schedule than new jobs.
